Letv Le 1S Smartphone First Impressions | General Q&A - 4

LeEco, the Chinese mobile phone manufacturer has recently launched two smartphones in India which are Le 1S & Le Max.

The former was a budget-friendly high-end smartphone while the later was a true flagship.
A day back we received a review unit and as soon as I received I thought of publishing my initial impression on this smartphone because of the following reasons.

  • During the launch event, the phone was compared with the Apple iPhone 6S & 6S Plus. I want to test the device & find out if it this new smartphone is really going to reach Apple iPhone mark.
  •  After Xiaomi & Meizu, this smartphone company has got a good name in the Chinese market & after China, they are launching these two smartphones straightly in India. Here I wanted to check what is the main difference between these 3 Chinese OEMs.
  •  Just like the Xiaomi marketing strategy (which has been followed by every other company in India), LeEco also planning the same kind of technique with the eCommerce giant- Flipkart. Here I wanted to check if the same strategy gonna work for this smartphone too.

So, without wasting any time, let me start directly to the main point.

Letv Le 1S Smartphone First Impressions:

I tested the device for a day, the phone really resembles the iPhone from UI, but not from the hardware point of view. Though it was running on Android v5 (lollipop), the new EUI (Eco UI) resembles IOS. In general, the notification bar will drop down from the top, but in this smartphone the pops up from the bottom (just like the ios devices). Most of the shortcuts/icons are very similar to that of iPhone. But, internally the UI is different, you can feel like the general android phone. From the design view, it is completely different. Actually, Le1S resembles HTC One series of smartphones.

Well, this is a bezel-less smartphone featuring a full metal body with a greater body to screen ratio than iPhone. It has good grip & I was very comfortable holding it. The weight is very less and it is not more than 170gms, making it one of the best light-weight handsets now.

Just like every other new smartphone, the Le 1S features fingerprint scanner which is world’s first mirrored surfaced fingerprint scanner. This will also help to capture selfies while using the front cam. The other major feature I found is the camera. It sports a whopping 21MP on the rear side which is capable of recording 4K videos fully. On the front side, a 5MP camera is given which is yet another asset in this phone. Though there was some noise while capturing selfies, but other than that the focus & the coverage is really good.

Now, I am only left with display & performance. Well, let’s check them out too.

As already said, the phone has a greater body to screen ratio & bezel-less, one other major feature of this phone is good ppi. With a 5.5-inch FHD screen, the smartphone boasts 403PPI.

The phone runs on a 2.2GHz Helixo Turbo processor (octa-core) & has a RAM of 3GB. For the gaming side, it features PowerVR G6200 GPU which was said to be perfect for hardcore gameplay. Still I need to test the gaming & the performance with our general tests. I will update the performance (gaming + battery) in my upcoming review.

Anyhow, here’re the remaining images [unboxed]:

Now, 2 general questions are left, let me answer them as well.

Xiaomi was a big hit in Indian market & there’s no doubt about it. The impact was that big that made every mobile brand in India to follow the same strategy. We posted a series of flash sale articles and explained everything about the strategy & still there is no change in it. Whether it is Xiaomi, Lenovo or the new LeEco, the structure of flash sale is same & Indian users get used to it now. So, there won’t be any big difference even the stock goes out in few seconds because this is the main thing that every brand wants to show.

Coming to the popularity between the three Chinese companies – Xiaomi, Meizu & LeEco, all of the brands have their own UI. None of them resembles the same & Eco UI is completely different from rest of the brands. This is the first advantage that is going to help them to raise their flag in India.

Next is the pricing. Xiaomi may be the first of its kind to introduce a high-end smartphone, but not the only one now. So, it is not a surprise to see a 10.9K price for this new Le1S smartphone. But from the specs, this is going to give a good competition to the upcoming Redmi Note 3, and other smartphones like Lenovo K4 Note, M2 Note, Mi4i etc. The flash sale will go live in Flipkart on Feb 2nd, 12 PM. In case if you haven’t registered, do it now before the sale kicks-off!
